Field Status

[Last Update:  October 30, 2011 @ 8:17AM]

ALL FIELDS ARE CLOSED.  ALL HOME GAMES ARE CANCELED.

Still unsure? Call the Field Hotline at 914.738.6644

NOTE ON CANCELLATIONS AND ALTERNATE FIELD ARRANGEMENTS: If your game is cancelled as a result of field closure, it is your responsibility to notify the opposing team immediately.  Find out if the opposing team can access one of its home fields (especially turf).  If so, contact your parents and play the game on the road.  If the referee is unable to travel to the alternate venue, your opponent and you will have to provide your own referee for the game.  In the event you are able to play the game on the road, immediately notify the Club at travel@pelhamsoccer.org.

Staying Safe on Pelham Fields
**NEW** Zero Tolerance Policy for Safety Violations

Soccer goals are big, heavy and expensive.  To children, they also look like perfectly good jungle gyms.  But, of course, soccer goals are not designed to be jungle gyms.

So, here's where you can help.   Please keep an eye out for any children (yours or anyone else’s) playing on, near or with the soccer goals, whether on the field or in storage out of play.  Don’t be shy !!!  If you see a child doing something he or she shouldn’t be doing on, near or with a soccer goal, politely but firmly warn the child away.  If you are not comfortable with speaking out or need some back-up, please inform the referee or one of your coaches.

For the safety of all, we feel it is necessary to establish a ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY.  If you or your child is involved with any improper use of a soccer goal, you and your child will be barred from Travel Soccer games and practices for the remainder of the day and asked to leave the field and spectator area.  As long as safety conditions permit, you may wait in your car for a game or practice to end.  If another child of yours is playing in a game or practice and was not involved with the improper use of the soccer goal, that child may continue to participate in the day’s activities.  You will be allowed to re-enter a field to pick up and drop off players for trips to and from home.

We wish we did not have to such hard line on this but this is a very serious safety issue.  Everyone’s cooperation will go a long way.

Support Turf for Glover Field !!!
More Playing Time for Everyone !!!
[Last update: September 20, 2011]

Despite the widespread installation of artifcial turf fields across towns throughout Westchester County, Pelham stiil does not have a single artificial turf facility.  While other towns are able to get more playing time for their players in RAIN OR SHINE, Travel Soccer must often cancel practices and games, sometimes afer only a passing, isolated thunderstorm.  Our field shortage and unreliability hurt our player skill level and create havoc with the WYSL game schedule.

The Club urges everyone to support the recent intiative to raise private money to install an artificial field at Glover.  An artificial field will increase the field supply for everyone in Pelham, not just our soccer players.  If you are interested in helping out, please see the attached message from Friends of Pelham Sports - the organization spearheading the turf field initiative.

Dear Pelham Travel Soccer Community –

As many of you know, Friends of Pelham Sports (FPS) was formed just over a year ago with the goal of building a turf field at Glover Stadium.  To date, FPS has received donations from over 130 Pelham families, raising over $335,000 in cash and gathering an additional $200,000 in commitments.  FPS’s goal is to rase $1 million by the Fall.

On June 17, FPS will be placing an ad in the Pelham Weekly listing out the Pelham families that have given to date (no amounts, just family names) and inviting other members of the community to donate.  Any donation that occurs by June 9 will be featured in the ad.  Furthermore, FPS must meet with the Board of Education in June and give them an update on our progress.  Demonstrating strong community support will be a very important part of the discussion.

If you are interested in helping, donations can be made at friendsofpelhamsports.com via credit card or by mailing a check to Vinny Mazzaro, Friends of Pelham  Sports, 243 Elderwood Avenue, Pelham NY.

Dozens of travel soccer families have donated to date and FPS appreciates their support.   If you haven’t yet given, please consider this note an impetus to do.  The field will exist for years. Our children will benefit from for many seasons, and into high school.  Please be as generous as you can.
